Air Cleaners - Indoor Environmental Standards Organization (IESO)

The importance of a clean indoors and devices such as air cleaners is addressed by the Indoor Environmental Standards Organization (IESO). This organization focuses on issues of clean air such as businesses that need to adapt to industry standards for a clean indoors including air cleaners. The organization is able to assist these businesses in achieving their clean air goals and sticking to standards and regulations put forth by the industry. The IESO is responsible for assisting businesses in keeping their products up to par in the air cleaning industry. The organization helps these businesses and individuals to stay afloat in the industry by educating, certifying and meeting with them.

Air Cleaners - Indoor Environmental Standards Organization (IESO)

IESO was established in 2002 and the headquarters are located in Rockville, Maryland. It is a non-profit organization that provides information to its members on the standards of the industry. The IESO strives to provide its members with the most up to date standards in the assessment of air. The organization places importance on the education of people when it comes to air quality. The IESO’s goal is to have all businesses involved in the cleaning of air be aware of the standards and measurements of clean air that are provided by the industry. The organization also offers certification programs. The IESO offers certification programs to continue education for people or to inform people in the industry of the new and expanding industry standards for air.

Air cleaners are critical to any overall "quality of life" plan.

The IESO takes air very seriously. An average person spends 90% of their time indoors, which makes pure air a necessity. It is also measured that 30% to 70% of all public buildings may have problems with their air. Air pollution is ranked as one of the top five public health risks by the EPA. With air cleanliness becoming a growing issue of importance, the IESO has taken on the task of educating people on the pure air industry’s standards. The organization has a wealth of knowledge and professionals in order to answer any clean air questions that consumers or employees of the air cleans industry may need to have addressed. There have been some pure air issues brought to the attention of legislators in some states and some legislation has even been passed at the federal level. However, the assessments of the air in indoor environments do not have any scientifically sound evidence or measurements. The IESO is an organization dedicated to making clean air an important and popular issue that should be dealt with by the industry.

The IESO was developed to design standardized procedures in order to assess the quality of air including room air cleaners. With a standardized procedure to measure the contaminants in the air, air cleaners will be able to be measured appropriately and accordingly. The performance of air cleaners on the market would be able to be fairly compared if the contaminants are measured in a standard manner. The standards that are developed by the IESO take into consideration the safety and health of the resident that is breathing in the air as well as the inspector that is assessing the air. The organization also offers certification and education on these new industry standards.

A member of the IESO can take a course to become a Certified Residential Mold Inspector. Once the courses are taken and the certification is in place, a person who is a Certified Residential Mold Inspector is able to perform mold inspections on residences according to the standards made for IESO. Representatives from the Indoor Air Quality consulting industry developed the standards that are used in the IESO Residential Mold certification.

Air cleaners are critical to any overall "clean living" plan.

Members of the IESO have access to benefits such as certifications, discounts on classes for continuing air education, invitations to an annual conference and access to new and current industry standards. The IESO also offers its members an open forum to discuss all topics of air. An open forum also allows its members to get standard information and questions answered about air from professionals. The IESO strives to provide the most current standards of the air cleaners industry and the best information and measurements of efficiency.
