The unit is able to clean air in a room 480 square feet in size or smaller.

Friedrich C90B air cleaners carry some of the highest Clean Air Delivery Rates, or CADR, of any other air cleaners. The air cleaner carries a CADR of 325 for dust, 300 for tobacco smoke and 370 for pollen. A CADR rate is one of the most important numbers a consumer can look at when choosing an air cleaner. The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, or AHAM developed the testing procedures for the CADR. The CADR is the amount of clean air that an air cleaner is able to deliver to a room. The CADR is measured in cubic feet per minute and is tested with tobacco smoke, pollen and dust. The room size rating that is achieved by using smoke. Even on the highest setting, the Friedrich C90B does not make enough sound to be distracting and does not blow a draft of air into the room.

Like most air cleaners, the Friedrich C90B puts off a small amount of ozone. However, the amount of ozone that is let off by the machine is not enough to affect the environment. The limit of ozone that a machine can let off as made by the Food and Drug Administration is .05 parts per million. The C90B only lets off is .014 parts per million, which is far away from the legal limit. Ozone is easily converted to oxygen because it reacts with surfaces and is harmless.

The C90B air cleaners are unique because they do not use the regular HEPA filter that most air cleaners are equipped with. This model has it’s own filter system that does not involve the HEPA filter. HEPA filters are very expensive to replace but with the C90B, the only filter that needs replacing is the carbon filter. The pre-filter in C90B air purifiers are very important to the filtering system. It is the first filter the air enters and can filter out large particles such as pet dander or dust. Since the filter is absorbing so many large particles, it is possible that these particles can get built up over time and stick to the filter.
