The Blueair 601 air cleaners are the big brother of the 501.  While the 601 uses the same filters as the 501 the engineers found that they could move more air though the system by allowing more air to enter and by increasing the size of the fan motor.  So, for just a bit more the room size capability of the unit is dramatically increased.

The styling is just a bit different than 501 air cleaners due to the intake holes located in the front of the unit, however the 6091 is as attractive and also comes with casters to make it easy to move from room to room.

The Blueair technology is very different from that of most air cleaner companies.  The design goal, which they have achieved, was to produce a filter system that was less constrained.  This is important for two reasons.  First, the fan would be able to push more air though the system and the air cleaner would be able to handle larger room sizes.  Second, the air cleaner would be quieter.  The less constriction, the less whistle like noise.  The Blueair engineers met the goal by combining electrostatic technology with a loose HEPA-like filter to get HEPA performance without the constriction.
