The 402, 501, and 601 air cleaners made by Blueair Limited are an all-steel air cleaners with a baked-on finish. Swedish design concepts are used to make products that offer the advantage of HEPA combined with very quiet, European inspired looks. Internal to the HEPA filter area are electrostatic wands which charge the particles in the air prior to passing though the HEPA element. This allows the air purifiers to be fully effective but create less noise.
Ozone levels actually decrease in third party tests. This is critical because the Blueair air purifiers use a combination of a HEPA and electrostatic technology to increase the flow and decrease the noise that these units generate.
This line is wonderful for allergy and asthma sufferers. The HEPA filters are nontoxic polypropylene based to minimize any opportunity for microorganism "growth" in the filter elements of the air purifiers.
We review the Blueair Air cleaners as excellent. Because of the way in which they implement their HEPA filter we have found that most people find their noise level to be surprisingly low. While they can certainly be heard on high there is no vibration or annoying rattles.

The Blueair technology is very different from that of most air cleaner companies. The design goal, which they have achieved, was to produce a filter system that was less constrained. This is important for two reasons. First, the fan would be able to push more air though the system and the air cleaner would be able to handle larger room sizes. Second, the air cleaner would be quieter. The less constriction, the less whistle like noise. The Blueair engineers met the goal by combining electrostatic technology with a loose HEPA-like filter to get HEPA performance without the constriction. Dirty air is brought into the air cleaner though vents in the bottom of the case. As it passes the fan it comes in contact with electrostatic brushes. These brushes charge any particles that air in the air regardless of their size. The next step in the process is the Blueair nontoxic polypropylene filters that are impregnated with activated carbon. The charged particles are drawn to the filter media as if by a magnet and the activated carbon absorbs chemicals, odors, and smoke. Clean air then exits into the room. Further, we have sold a large number of Blueair air cleaners and have found that our customers have had very few problems. The packaging is good so very few of the units arrive dented or dinged. They turn on and work. The controls are simple to operate with a five position rotary switch. In other words, they just work out of the box with relatively little fiddling. Blueair Air Cleaners - The Company
At Blueair Air Cleaners we have one mission, to provide our customers
with clean air. We do this because breathing is a right we are all born
with. Our award winning air cleaners are designed for people who don’t
want to compromise on their health, the quality of the air they breath,
or on performance and value.
Founded in 1996 in Sweden the firm quickly gained a
well-earned reputation for high performance, for technological
innovation and for quality design. In the USA an independent
organization, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers named one
of our products, the 501, the best in its class for it’s amazing
performance. It equaled or surpassed over 170 other products to achieve
this distinction, an award that we are very proud of. In Sweden they
have won the Excellent Swedish Design Award, one of the most prestigious
awards in Scandinavia. One of the air cleaners is on display in the
permanent Contemporary Swedish Design Exhibit in Stockholm. |
