The American Indoor Air Quality Council (AIAQC) is an organization that focuses on perfecting the air cleaning industry including portable air cleaners. The organization promotes awareness of air cleaning technology and education. The AIAQC also deals with certifications for employees joining the air quality industry. They provide classes and forums for people interested in clean air. This organization is dedicated to bettering the air cleaning industry with education and support. Without the American Indoor Air Quality Council, the air cleaning industry would not have such outstanding support and technological advancement. The AIAQC makes it easier for people to receive education and certification to expand their career and knowledge of clean air and understand air cleaners.

The organization contains 3000 members and 200 corporate sponsors. The main goal of The AIAQC is to provide information and education on clean air to all members. The organization prides itself on educating members and exploring new air cleaning technologies. It is able to stay afloat and educate consumers and companies due to its 200 corporate sponsors. The organization is still growing and hopes to stay in the industry for a long time, educating and certifying people on indoor quality and air cleaners.

The AIAQC was started in October of 1993 in Arizona. There were a few participants of an EPA indoor Quality Course that stayed after the course to discuss the need for the government to be involved with EPA and other Indoor Quality organizations. The participants were concerned with keeping people informed and educated on clean air and indoor quality. The participants of the meeting joined together to create The American Indoor Air Quality Council in 1994. Charles Wiles set up the organization as a non-profit corporation. The AIAQC was dedicated to educating its members on indoor quality and the newest discoveries about indoor air. Mr. Wiles had over twenty years of experience in the indoor quality field and was able to pass this information on to the organization’s members. The members were able to attend six different workshops to be educated on indoor quality. The members of the AIAQC also received five newsletters a year and were given the opportunity to speak with professionals that work in the field of air purity. The professionals, workshops, or newsletters that the organization provided answered all of the members’ questions, concerns and inquiries.

Portable air cleaners are an important tool in improving air purity.

The organization grew rapidly throughout the years and soon was known throughout the nation. The AIAQC was officially incorporated in the end of 1998. There are several states in the United States that have opened chapters of the American Indoor Air Quality Council in order to have local meetings and workshops for members including makers of air cleaners. The AIAQC assists each chapter that is developed on certification, education and membership and keeps them up to date on the newest technologies on the market. The organization already has about 46 chapters in 26 different states and is constantly growing. There is also expansion into other countries and there may be chapters of The American Indoor Air Quality Council being developed overseas including sellers of air cleaners.

The AIAQC offers many workshops and courses. There are many certification programs that are offered to people looking to further educate themselves on air purity. Some of these certifications include the Certified Air Purity Investigator, Certified Air Purity Consultant, Certified Microbial Remediation Specialist, Certified Air Purity Manager, Certified Microbial Consultant and Certified Microbial Claims Adjuster. Members of the American Indoor Air Quality Council can earn these certifications by following the criteria given by the organization including makers of air cleaners.
