The IQAir company has been around since 1963. IQAir Air
Cleaners started out as a vision, a deep desire to be able to create
something that could improve the health and well being of many people
throughout the world. The need to give everyone clean crisp air inside
their homes. However, this desire to design a way to be able to give
clean air to the public via air cleaners didn’t just arise out of thin
air. It was actually brought on by two brothers, Manfred and Klaus
Hammed.
So what spurred on the invention of air cleaners? Manfred Hammes
suffered from chronic asthma through his entire childhood and it was all
due to the air that he was breathing. In 1963, with his brother, they
welcomed the first air cleaners to residential Germany. The first models
that they came out with were made of a simple filtering pad and small
magnets. The magnets were put there to hold the air filtering pad to the
customer’s coal ovens so that the coal dust could be filtered out of the
hot air that was coming into the residents home. This was the very first
air cleaners that were installed in homes to bring cleaner air to the
residents.
Hammes’ dream was started in Germany but soon was moved to Switzerland
in 1978 and took on the name Incen AG. It became one of the most leading
industries all through Europe and is still one of the top leaders today
in air cleaners.
IQAir North America, Inc. was founded in Pasadena, California by Frank
Hammes, the son of one the Hammes brothers. IQAir North America, Inc.
was not intended to make air cleaners for the home when the company
first began. IQAir was a company that made add-on air filters for inside
the cabins of Mercedes Benz and Volvo’s. The air filter add on soon
became very popular in the automobiles that the Mercedes Benz and Volvo
company decided to cut out IQAir North American, Inc. and manufacturer
them on their own.
That didn’t stop IQAir North America, Inc. they came back in 1994 with a
plan to design a totally different types of air cleaners than what they
had previously designed for the Mercedes Benz and Volvo firms. They put
in a lot of research to find out what type of air cleaners were already
out on the market and then decided what they’re strategy should be. They
hired a team of German engineers and air filtration specialist to start
on developing their new air cleaners for homes and
businesses.
